ABOUT ‘IS YOUR CHILD READY TO FACE THE WORLD?’

In the introduction to his very first non-medical book, Dr Anupam Sibal, Group
Medical Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group, and a renowned pediatrician, says
that his book Is Your Child Ready to Face The World? was born as a result of
observing children and parents in his practice of 20 years and of course his
personal experiences as a father to his son. “Over the years I have developed a
method to communicate with our son, based on my learning as a pediatrician.
Over the last two decades, I have interacted with parents and teenagers every day.

This opportunity to study the behavior of children and adolescents, their interaction
with their parents and how they relate to adults gave me the insights that I needed
to develop these methods. This book is an attempt to share my experiment.”
Avoiding a pedantic approach, Dr Sibal chooses to instead detail how he has used
inspiring icons, world events and personal anecdotes to communicate to his own
child about the values he feels all children need to face the world. Thus, the book is
not divided, as many parenting books are, into chapters detailing behaviours and
tantrums, and offers, instead, insights on how to convert a situation into an
opportunity to converse with your child. With communication becoming a major
barrier in the parent-child relationship as soon as the teen years surface,
many parents would do well to give this book a read.
